Jane Howard, a.k.a. “Island Jane,” is an artist, environmentalist, educator and eco-tour leader who could be a role model for resilience.
She pioneered Eco-Tourism, and has made it her life’s work to deliver a multitude of incredible adventures to thousands of people. Last year she faced the challenge of a lifetime, watching the volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island consumer her new home under 40 feet of lava.
Jane shares about her creative path and what she learned from her adventures with the volcano.
Born in New York, Jane migrated to San Miguel, Mexico for art school, before landing on the West Coast for graduate work in Art and Environmental education.
She returned home to the Big Island after a decade of guiding and managing “Island Institute”, her own eco-tour company.
Jane founded Island Institute, designed learning adventures in the Caribbean islands, forged Jungle-Reef tours in Belize, guided tour groups in Costa Rica, Tanzania, Panama, Jamaica, Mexico, Colombia, Indonesia and naturally, Hawaii. Jane holds her Master’s Degree in Environmental & Sustainability Education and is a Certified teacher with a deep passion for igniting curiosity and inspiring oceans of Aloha and Malama Aina (care for the planet).
Jane spends her time living life to the fullest and encourages others to do the same while protecting nature and educating others about our beautiful earth!
