Images of imagination

This week, I’ve been thinking about the power of imagination, especially as we age.

Imagination provides a spark for creativity.

Creativity feeds the soul.

Filmmaker David Lynch says that his best ideas come through daydreams. Others find space in nature.

In space and dreams, our imaginations have room to roam.

Here are a few quotes to think about:

“Love what you do and do what you love. Don’t listen to anyone else who tells you not to do it. You do what you want, what you love. Imagination should be the center of your life.” ― Ray Bradbury

We tend to consider imagination too lightly, forgetting that the life we make, for ourselves individually and for the world as a whole, is shaped and limited only by the perimeters of our imagination. Things are as we imagine them to be, as we imagine them into existence. Imagination is creativity, and the way we make our world depends on the vitality of our imagination.
— Thomas Moore

“Reality can be beaten with enough imagination.” –Mark Twain

What feeds your imagination? And where do you go to replenish it?

Here’s to letting your imagination soar!

  1. Hi Sally – I’ve been loving your blog for quite a time now. This one moved me to respond. For about 10 years I’ve been an artist/author in residence at some elementary schools (3rd and 4th grades) and we always spend time with the question, “Where do you get your ideas for your stories?” And imagination is the first answer they always give! Most recently, these kids have inspired me to let my imagination loose in crafting and illustrating a story about Sami, the Snow Dragon – perfect for our snowy winter here in Minnesota!

    1. Yvonne, Thank you so much for reading – and it’s wonderful to hear from you. You have modeled using your creative imagination in the 3rd act of life! Sounds like you are no longer in the Northwest?

  2. I especially love that Mark Twain quote, thank you!!

My absolute favorite quote, which is pasted on the ceiling above my bed:

A resolute imagination is the beginning of all magical operations. – Paracelsus
